BBC’s Plans For Fall 2020 https://gobbc.edu/2020/06/17/372973/ Wed, 17 Jun 2020 18:17:02 +0000 https://gobbc.edu/?p=372973

BBC IS WORKING HARD TO KEEP YOU SAFE

Our staff has been busy working on plans to open our campus this fall. We are planning on a successful Fall 2020 semester and have designed some vital health care improvements to keep you safe when you return. We are doing everything we can to ensure you have a safe, healthy, and blessed experience at BBC.

Listed below are items that BBC is currently working on to ensure this:

  1. Single occupancy dorms will be available, at no additional cost, to those who would like this option. Students can follow this link for more information.
  1. Sanitation stations will be offered throughout campus as well as sanitation items provided in each classroom.
  1. Social distancing in classrooms and common areas will be in place. Please do your part to help us throughout the school year.
  1. Face masks will not be required; however, any student that would like to wear masks while on campus is welcome to do so.
  1. Temperature checks and health screenings will be a part of our procedures on campus throughout the fall semester.
  1. Off-Campus Flex Cash for room and board students will not be offered as a Dining Services option. Instead, we are introducing mobile ordering and will be expanding hours to accommodate those that need flexibility in dining. Our mobile ordering site will be available for all BBC students, faculty, and staff to use.
  1. Virtual classroom experiences will be available for those students who are not yet comfortable returning to campus. We know that some courses will be challenging to manage in this format, but we recognize the need to help our students finish their course work and are committed to doing this.

There will be more specific details regarding each of these points in the coming weeks shared with our students. We thank you for your trust and partnership as we come along side our students to fulfill the mission of BBC.

You want to make a difference in the world. We want to help you do it.

FROM THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT MILIONI CONCERNING COVID-19 https://gobbc.edu/2020/03/16/from-the-office-of-president-milioni-concerning-covid-19/ Mon, 16 Mar 2020 21:41:20 +0000 https://gobbc.edu/?p=321864

Dear Students, Parents, and Friends of Baptist Bible College,

Amid a very challenging situation due to the spread of COVID-19, we know there is enormous anxiety, concern, and confusion about the weeks and months ahead here at Baptist Bible College. The choices before us, regarding the remaining weeks of our Spring Semester and beyond, are complex. Whatever decisions we make affect so many people and so many activities. From the beginning of this crisis, our Administration determined to make careful, prudent, and thoughtful choices. We have carefully sought the Lord through this process and, even now, are asking the Lord to direct not only our decisions but also for each of you.

As we departed for Spring Break, our intention was for you to return for classes on Monday, March 23. Given to new guidelines from every aspect, from the President to the Center for Disease Control to our local authorities, both city and county, we have made the significant decision to finish this semester with a remote format.

This decision means that we will not have any in-person, on-campus classes for the rest of this semester.

I am sure you have lots of questions, and we have met many hours trying to prepare for this significant situation. We will attempt to answer every question and all the details. In the next few hours and days, you will be receiving more detailed information to explain how we are going to proceed.

I am convinced that the ultimate decisions we frame for this semester and beyond, in response to COVID-19, will be for the best. They will be focused first and foremost on the health and welfare of our students, staff, faculty, and community partners — and they will ensure the on-going integrity and excellence of our college.

It is my honor to work with great Christian leaders here at BBC that continuously think of the student first. They are all dedicated to helping you achieve and become all that God has for you. I am disappointed not to be with you during these very turbulent times. I hope you know my heart and love for you. We have nothing but your best at heart and will work with you to make this all work. You are served by professors that love you and desire your success. Your patience, dedication, and hard work make all the difference.

We have also made the difficult decision to cancel Fellowship Week and all the 70th Anniversary activities that had been planned. However, at this time, we are still planning on a commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 7, at 10 am. We hope to be able to celebrate the accomplishment of our graduating seniors, but please understand that even this event is open to change as necessary.

Please continue to monitor our website and your email for updated information and announcements regarding our responses to COVID-19.

Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” This situation may be disappointing; this is all beyond our control. May we all remember who is in control and that the One that is in control knows every detail of every life.

With all of our hope in a sovereign, loving, personal Savior,

Dear Students, Parents and BBC Family,

To address the Coronavirus (COVID-19) the Emergency Response Team, the senior leadership along with the faculty and staff of Baptist Bible College (BBC), have continued to meet and discuss options facing our students and campus. Without question, our immediate focus is on the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff.

As of today, BBC remains open. It is our current plan to have classes return after spring break on Monday, March 23. We are developing plans and options in case plans need to change. Given the serious nature of the situation, we are making preparations for both short and long term options to get through the semester.

Currently, BBC or the Springfield area has no reported or confirmed cases of COVID-19.

To do our part, BBC has significantly increased its campus cleaning and sanitization schedules as an additional precaution.

This past weekend we proactively canceled study trips to Israel and Kenya which were to occur during spring break. We have canceled the upcoming College Days event, April 1-2 and are discussing other future scheduled events.

Students will receive notifications and updates and should regularly check their email and our website, gobbc.edu.

BBC suggests that students, faculty, and staff follow city, state, and federal guidance regarding travel restrictions and precautions.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website includes helpful information on the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19): https://www.cdc.gov/

For local reports and information, the Springfield-Greene County Health Department website is https://www.springfieldmo.gov/2853/Health

Please know that this is a historical situation and we are giving the student safety, experience and success a priority in any decisions.

Always remember, Jesus, challenged us to be a light to our dark world.

Matthew 5.14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

May we all use this “dark” time to be a light just as Jesus challenged us

From the one that did not hesitate to touch and love a leper, we know we are to love and help those going through a difficult time.

Mark 1. 40 Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” 41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”

All around us are those living with fear and great anxiety. May we be willing to help and share the love of Jesus that we have been blessed to have experienced.

Please pray for us as we make the best decisions possible.

May God bless and protect us in these times,

Baptist Bible College was founded in the fall of 1950 by a group of pastors and churches who shared a common vision to train pastors, missionaries, and Christian leaders to plant churches in both the United States and around the world. From the early days, the College has achieved accreditation, offers degrees in both ministry studies and professional studies, and offers seminary degrees. Though the College has matured over time, the College maintains it’s distinctive as a Bible college. The mission of the College is to provide a transformative education by which students develop intellectually and spiritually, so that they might engage their world as committed followers of Jesus Christ.

It is important, therefore that the College recognize student achievement. One strategy is to recognize undergraduate academic achievement every semester. Students may qualify each semester for the Honor’s List or the President’s list.

Dr. Norma Gillming served for over 28 years at BBC. She taught English classes and excelled as a Professor. She was instrumental in writing the original accreditation documents which helped us gain initial accreditation in 1978.

Dr. Gillming also served with Dr. Kenneth Gillming as the founders of Cherry St. Baptist Church for over 40 years. She was a published author and frequent lecturer at women’s conferences all over America. We praise God for both Dr. Kenneth and Dr. Norma Gillming’s influence at BBC and around the world.

During this morning’s chapel service,  Josie Ramirez and Emily Ramos were each awarded a scholarship from Reinhart Foods in the amount of $250.00. This scholarship was given for outstanding work as a Dining Services employee of Baptist Bible College. Baptist Bible College seeks to find qualities of servanthood, integrity, influence, wisdom, and ambition in it’s employees. Both of these students exemplify those qualities. Both Josie and Emily are from McCauley Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. Pastor Scott Quidley is their home pastor.  A special thank you Reinhart Foods for your generosity to our students.

SECURITY UPDATE https://gobbc.edu/2018/02/06/security-update/ Tue, 06 Feb 2018 01:07:22 +0000 https://gobbc.edu/?p=20425
BBC Family,
Late Monday night, February 5, 2018, a BBC student was assaulted on our campus while waiting for a friend. This assault happened by a person not associated with the campus of Baptist Bible College.  The student was hit in the head and the perpetrator made off with personal items from the student running across campus and onto Kearney St. This was a tragic event and we are very concerned for the student that endured this attack. We take events like this very seriously and do everything that we can to keep our campus safe. The BBC security team and student life team quickly made their way to the scene after receiving word of what happened. Joined by Police and EMS, our teams did their very best to help our students and campus personnel that were on the scene.
It is important in times like these to remind our students of the resources available to them while living on the campus of Baptist Bible College.

All students can access:

  • A Security Hotline: (417) 268- 6022  Our students are encouraged to save this number in their phones and to call this hotline for any reason. This includes simply wanting an escort from their car to their dorms or apartments. This is a great benefit for those who work at night.
  • Fobs: Each student is issued a fob for security into Vick, Donnelson,  and Woodworth dorms, as well as Administration and Student Common areas. We ask students to use these and be cautious of those that are following them.
  • Security Patrols:  BBC staffs 24/7 security on our campus. This means there is always an officer on duty for the college. In recent years we have seen an increase of off-duty police personnel pick up shifts for us adding additional protection.
  • Campus Text Alerts: When there is a campus threat that our security team is notified about, a text alert will be issued for the whole campus, if it involves a threat to our whole campus. To receive these text alerts each student should to go on to their student portal and approve their phone number for text alerts. This can be found on POPULI
  • Self Defense Classes: We are blessed to have Glenn Cozzens at the head of our security. Glenn is well versed in self defense, and has conducted free classes for ladies on our campus to help train them in the event of an emergency
  • Active Shooter Training: Every student is required to be trained, so that in the event of an active shooter situation, our campus would respond in the best way.

In light of the events from Monday Night, the President and the Administration met today to make adjustments and additions to our security measures on campus.

Here are some security measures that we will be implementing very soon:

  • Increased security from 11pm- 2am each night.
  • Increase the amount of trained off duty Police personnel on our security team.
  • Additional cameras installed in and around the D Building and its adjacent parking lot.
  • Install additional lighting around stairwells, and parking lots for better visibility.
  • Install increased equipment in the Security post located by the Vick dorm.

Finally:

Please know we are praying for and doing our best to care for the student that was assaulted. This should never happen to anyone. And again, we want to ensure all of our students, and BBC families that we are doing everything and will do everything we can to ensure a safe environment around the campus of Baptist Bible College. Please feel free to contact our campus for any questions or concerns.
God Bless,
